How to clean a persian rug at home

One of the most important things to keep in mind when cleaning carpets is that the surface does not always reflect the cleanliness of the carpet. After all, a large amount of dust particles and other contaminants can hide in your carpet without you even realizing it. The goal when cleaning Persian rugs at home is to take care of it and professionally clean it. Improper cleaning of Persian rugs is almost always dangerous and ineffective. Additionally, these carpets are not designed for commercial chemical solutions that can damage and worsen the situation in the long run, even though they make the carpet look nice. Here are five tips on how to clean Persian rugs at home. For maximum carpet cleanliness, we recommend applying these tips after a professional deep cleaning. Keeping your rug clean is an important step not only to make it look great, but also to ensure its long-term durability and value.

1. Vaccuum both sides, at least once every two weeks

Vacuuming your rug at least  every two weeks is one of the easiest ways to minimize dust levels  and maximize the life of your rug. Vacuum the back as well. This will remove most of the dust from the rug. Depending on how much traffic you have on your carpet, you may need to vacuum more often. But if the carpet is fragile. For antique or fine carpets, vacuum very little or not at all. When vacuuming a fine carpet, have a helper hold the other end and use a more gentle vacuum to avoid wrinkling the carpet. Wool is a strong and durable fiber that can last for years and even decades if properly cared for. Wool is especially good at hiding dirt. Just because the carpet isn't dirty doesn't mean it's clean. Most stains on carpets and rugs consist of particulate stains such as sand, quartz, limestone, feldspar,  and gypsum, which  wool fibers hide very well. If these stains are not regularly vacuumed or cleaned, wool can wear prematurely, similar to rug fibers exposed to stains from abrasive particles. Also, be careful not to vacuum  the fringes as this can damage the fringes. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner with a brush. Fiber migration can lead to irreversible pile distortion over time. For best results, choose a Carpet & Rug Institute certified vacuum cleaner.

2. Tough Stains Procedure

Please note that stubborn stains cannot be removed by washing with water alone. That's why it's important to know what to do if your carpet gets dirty. Grab the solution and don't try to wipe it out. This will only spread the dirt and make it worse. Gently blot the stain with an absorbent paper towel. Do not apply pressure. Then use a vacuum hose to create a suction cup without smudging the dirty area. Leave it as it is and extract as much of the blemish-causing substance as possible. Next, get a light fan and blow it over the stain. This will help steam out some of the potential dirt. This procedure will help reduce stain damage as much as possible, but if the stain still bothers you, the sooner you bring the carpet to a professional carpet cleaner, the more likely it is that the stain will be removed. Professional carpet cleaning can reduce the likelihood of a permanent stain. These simple steps can significantly reduce the cost of restoring your carpet to its original appearance.

3. Reduce traffic stains by taking your shoes off while indoors

A University of Arizona study concluded that shoes contain an average of 421,000 bacteria. There are also various toxins on the ground that your shoes can pick up. Over time, these toxins build up in your home, especially if you have carpets and rugs that absorb them the most.If you have kids or pets that run around on all fours, it's easy.
Please take off your shoes inside the house. Aside from health hazards, traffic stains also accumulate from loose dust and dirt particles. An easy way to greatly reduce this is to remove your shoes, at least if you are in a room with carpet.

4. Don’t soak your rug in water

We have countless customers who have tried to soak their rug. As a result, their carpet suffered from an enormous amount of fading and yellowing, and repair cost far more than professional cleaning. The use of detergents, the use of hot water, and most of all, inadequate drying facilities for carpets. The only option is to drain and dry in the sun, but dyeing the rug this way is too time-consuming and the water becomes a host for bacteria and mold, turning the rug yellow and leaving it with a musty odor. Even the highest quality rugs are built to last and can be soaked multiple times before they become damaged. For this reason, we recommend sending the rug to a professional carpet cleaner for a full soak. The risk of damage far outweighs the money you can save by cleaning at home.

5. Read your cleaning product labels

There seems to be a social confusion about the difference between rugs and carpets. They are not the same. Just like carpet cleaners can't clean rugs. Though that's an entirely different conversation for another day. Carpet is a term used to describe a wall-to-wall carpet we've seen many times. Using products or machines made for carpets will usually damage rugs, especially Persian rugs. This is especially true of harsh chemicals advertised for use on carpets. Their rugs contain chemical or vegetable dyes that should not be soaked in household chemical mixtures, and not all Persian rugs are made to the same standards, so someone else's success of these products does not guarantee your success. You won't be compensated for any damage these products may cause to your carpet and we recommend that you stay away from these products. These harmful products will ultimately reduce the value and quality of your carpet.
